The Color Of The Yolk Can Tell You If The Egg Came From A Healthy Chicken

We all know that eating eggs is very good for your body. However, do you know how to tell that you are actually buying good quality eggs? After reading this short story you’ll be able to distinguish between the good and the not so good cartons of eggs.

A woman bought eggs from three different places. The first carton was bought from a local farmer, the second carton was from bought at the market and the eggs were from pure grain fed free range chickens, and the third carton was bought at a big chain supermarket.

She took the eggs from the first carton and cracked them into a frying pan. She then did the same thing with the eggs from the second carton.

After cracking eggs from the first two cartons into the frying pan, she took the eggs from the third carton–the one’s from the big chain supermarket–and cracked them into the frying pan. It’s then that she noticed the difference between the three types of eggs.

Do you notice the color of the yolks? The egg that was straight from the farmer is a rich orange, while the other two eggs have a dull yellow yolk. The orange yolk is the type that you want to eat. Eggs with darker yolks have more nutritional value, as some studies have shown that they have more omega-3s and vitamins and less cholesterol.

But why are there two different types of yolks? Well, the color is influenced mainly by the hen’s diet. Free-range hens that eat a varied diet of grains, bugs and other organic matter tend to produce more flavorful eggs with deeper colored yolks, compared to those that eat factory chicken feed.

And of course, the healthier the hen is, the better the eggs are, and the better for your overall health. The rich orange yolk is the egg you want to try and find.
