Swaddling, or wrapping an infant or baby in blankets to soothe them and keep them warm, has been practiced in various forms by a number of different cultures since paleolithic times, and was even referenced in the New Testament!
While today’s swaddling blankets aren’t quite so restrictive as they used to be, many parents find that the practice helpful in soothing irritable infants. Animals seem to enjoy the practice just as much, as it makes them feel safe and cozy, and for orphans, can serves as a substitute to their mother’s warm body. Adult animals may love being a burrito as it reminds them of happy times as an itty bitty baby…
