This time, however, instead of being predicted by some "psychic" on the local news, the doomsday source material is the Bible, and although the holy scripture has been studied meticulously for centuries, only now has one man discovered that it states the world will end on June 24, 2018. No Fourth of July celebrations this year, I guess!
Before I go into details and you start canceling all your summer plans, let's take things down a notch and revisit some of the past doomsday prophecies that never came true.
Remember the millennium? New Year's parties in 1999 were off the hook because everyone from well-known psychic Edgar Cayce to many pastors and religious figures had predicted the end of days to occur in the year 2000.
And let's not forget the Y2K computer virus that was supposed to destroy technology at the stroke of midnight and cause civilization to erupt into chaos.
Or how about the Mayan calendar? Back in 2012, when everyone discovered that the Mayan's ended their calendar in that year, we all just assumed it meant times up. Literally.
Then just last year, author and conspiracy theorist, David Meade, predicted that a mysterious planet called Nibiru would suddenly appear in the sky and destroy Earth.
You'd think NASA would have seen it coming, right? In fact, a top NASA Scientist has already declared that it would be impossible for Nibiru to exist. If it did, the planet's gravitational forces would have already taken out the moon.
Now, the new biblical theory predicts that Armageddon will take place this summer. Conspiracy theorist Mathieu Jean-Marc Joseph Rodrigue has done a bit of finagling with a passage in the Book of Revelations to come up with the date of June 24, 2018.
The passage Rodrigue believes is significant is the following: "He was given authority to act for 42 months."
Supposedly, if you add the number in the passage to the crop harvest and price, it gives us the date of our last day on Earth.
"I heard a voice in the middle of the four living beings. This is wisdom," Rodrigue told the Daily Star. "He who has intelligence can interpret the figure of the beast. It represents the name of a man. His figure is 666."
So I'm not exactly sure how Rodrigue got a date out of all that. His explanation seems a little wonky, doesn't it? I wouldn't spend too much time thinking about it. After all, the world hasn't ended yet so I think it's safe to say the odds of seeing June 25th are still pretty good.
